Everyone can answer the question, “How do you feel?”
False.
It’s easy for some people, but others find it more difficult, because they aren’t comfortable naming their emotions or they simply aren’t used to acknowledging them. When talking to these people, you can change your questions by focusing on something else. For example: “How did you react?” and “What did you do then?” These are also ways of being there and helping the other person talk about what he/she is going through.
Suggest emotions
You can also help the person find words for what he/she is feeling. If the person seems open to it, you can even suggest emotions. For example: “When you say you did this… were you more angry or disappointed?” If you look online, you can easily find lists of emotions you can use.
